Horizon Communications

Horizon Communications was established in $2001$ as an independent supplier of office equipment, including PABX systems, photocopiers, high volume printing solutions, hardware supply and peripherals.

The office equipment market is estimated to be worth more than R$12$ billion in South Africa. Competition is fierce and the work environment is highly competitive and demanding, with little tolerance for failure.

Two years ago, the executive appointed a new general manager to spearhead Horizon Communications. The incumbent has a stellar track record and is mature and driven but is known to be short of patience and autocratic.

In contrast, the office manager who has been with the company for $20$ years has a supportive approach and has endeared herself to all the staff and is much more tolerant of extended deadlines and has extensive knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of all employees.

The result is an ongoing rivalry between the two managers, leading to an acrimonious split in the company, which in turn affects morale and performance.
