Hot water, flowing through a bundle of tubes is used to heat air in cross flow over the tubes. The tubes are aligned and have an outside diameter of 20 mm. The transverse pitch is 35 mm and the longitudinal pitch is 40 mm. There are eight rows of tubes in the air flow direction and nine tubes per row. The surface temperature of the tubes is 80 0 C whilst the upstream temperature and velocity are 22 0 C and 8 m/s respectively. 3.1 Determine the air side convection coefficient and the rate of heat transfer for the tube bundle. 3.2 Calculate the pressure drop across the bundle of tubes.
