Re: Knowledge Management department proposal

I am writing to request the implementation of a new office and management position. Let me begin by informing you of the importance of Knowledge Management (KM). Knowledge is vast and but can be limiting. Organizations that implement knowledge management within their company and spread information and improve efficiency by storing and sharing knowledge and data. Additionally, sharing knowledge promotes a positive culture collaboration and team cohesion. For example, if an individual in one department is struggling, someone from another department can step in to assist because they will have the information at hand to perform that task. Knowledge Management is a way to streamline our organizations knowledge and processes and make them readily available to employees. Kimiz Dalkir wrote "Much of an organization's valuable knowledge walks out the door at the end of the day" (Dalkir 2005). Within knowledge management, there are two different types of knowledge, explicit and tacit. Tacit knowledge is the knowledge that is in an individual's heads. Explicit knowledge is the knowledge that an organization puts on paper. Tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge within an organization is not balanced. The following are strategies to make tacit knowledge more explicit within GDD.

GDD can incentivize sharing- make people want to share their knowledge, choose the right tools- get the tool out of the way and find something easy to use, make the process part of the way of working- have regular meetings at key milestones to share developments (Wilkins, 2021). This new office will have analysts who can ensure we are up to date with the regulations, policies, and they will ensure that the information is distributed to the 6,500 employees both internationally and in the U.S. The manager will ensure that all employees are not only trained, but cross trained the assist other areas. These individuals will also be responsible with providing gathering and distributing instructional information and material, creating and maintaining all written/digital materials, and researching the latest developments. This implementation can give GDD a real competitive advantage.
