how can I respond to my classmates post ? Cloud Computing is related to Cloud Storage (Evans et al., 2022, p. 60-61) are different things, yet they are closely related. Cloud Storage, from what I am gathering, is a data storage companies utilize, and customers utilize to store their data, pictures, and anything else internet related to one location. Cloud computing is more of the act of utilizing the storage and the act of transferring the data to and from the cloud storage. So, I see it as the cloud storage being a useful part of the cloud computing as a whole. I am currently using a few forms of cloud storage. I have paid a monthly fee for iCloud storage since before I even could understand truly what cloud storage and computing even was. I also utilize Microsoft Dropbox on occasion, and Google Photos is I believe a form of the cloud storage we are talking about that I have recently joined. I enjoy these services and find them to be very useful for the storage of all of my devices. I see that time coming sooner than we envision, when most all software could be web-based. Some advantages would include but not be limited to larger storage space, less chance of losing stored or saved items, and with search options long-term records could be accessed quickly. A great example is the use of my iCloud storage, as I have broken many an iPhone since buying my first one in 2013. I didn't have a need for iCloud storage when it launched and did not participate in it when I got my first phone, and when the phone stopped working, I lost everything stored on the device. The clerk told me at T-Mobile that I could have avoided this with iCloud storage. So, I elected to start using the cloud-based storage so I wouldn't lose everything next time my phone inevitably stopped working. The disadvantages, on the other hand, include security problems, helping older people convert to the cloud-based storage options, financial cost that come from switching. In an online article I read after the textbook, two things really stood out to me. "Keep Your Files Encrypted" (Kochovski, 2023), is such great advice to answer my security worries. "The only true disadvantage of cloud storage is that you need to be online to use it" (Kochovski, 2023)
