"Whitey Basson started his career with Shoprite during the apartheid era and as such may have benefited from a time period which is seen as morally unacceptable. The way to balance this obvious advantage would be to distribute wealth of the rich who had benefited from this time period to address the inequalities still experienced today. While he may have worked hard to build the company to where it currently is, it doesn't justify or address the imbalances which existed during the period he found that success"
