The criminal case that I chose that involved a multi-jurisdictional investigation was the United States vs. Joaquin Guzman Loera. Many people may be familiar with this case as it involves the capture of the Sinaloa Drug Kingpin "El Chapo". On July 17, 2019, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was sentenced to life in prison plus thirty years and ordered to pay $12.6 billion in restitution for running a multi-national, multi-billion-dollar drug enterprise. (CNN, 2022). Guzman faced federal charges in Arizona, Texas, California, Illinois, New Hampshire and Florida. The case was investigated by the DEA, ICE HSI and the FBI, in cooperation with Mexican, Ecuadorian, Netherlands, Dominican and Colombian law enforcement authorities. (Justice, 2019)
