How do you improve upon a control account plan (CAP) developments for a landscape company who has received a job to clear a section of land that is currently overgrown. The job can be broken down into the following CAPs:

1. Remove Trees (including stumps)
2. Remove brush (tree clippings/bushes/etc.)
3. Grade the soil
4. Plant new grass seed

Each of these CAPs would be a solid, measurable part of clearing that section of land.Under each CAP are the work packages, or the actual deliverable or milestones that need to be completed.The progress on these work packages is how we track the performance of each CAP.Let's use the first CAP of Removing Trees for our example.Under this CAP we would find two work packages:

1. Cut down trees
2. Remove stumps.

For this example, if we assume our landscape company is using the Percent Complete EV method then we know each performance period the project manager would take performance based on the progress of these two work packages.For this example, they can run concurrently as you can be cutting down new trees while removing stumps from ones previously cut and so the percent complete method would work well.
