How do you reply to this student discussison post?
Hello, I have chosen lean manufacturing as my topic, because it ties in perfectly with the concept of managerial accounting. The reason I state this is due to the each concept working within the big picture of an organization reducing any unnecessary loss and utilizing the means of issue reduction. Lean manufacturing focuses on using a system in which transparency from top to bottom is used within departments taking advantage of internal system within. By saying this I mean this approach maximizes each elements efficiency in the organization, getting the best out to the customer base with less waste during the whole production to in the hands of the customer, process. Lean, looks within an organization utilizes the approach of these three fundamentals: Purpose of prospering, Process of a companys structure within (fluidly), and lastly, the right capabilities know by its People, according to (Lean Enterprise Institute, 2014). Lean manufacturing in itself is all about waste reduction by all means necessary, yet both Managerial Accounting and Lean share a values system of focusing on the betterment for the entire organization they service. Doing more with less, Lean Manufacturing involves never ending efforts to eliminate or reduce 'muda' (Japanese for waste or any activity that consumes product without adding value) in design, manufacturing, distribution, and customer service (Business dictionary, 2015). Example of use within the Airline Industry: In the early '90s, Boeing facing a deregulated commercial airline industry that had begun to focus on profitability realized it needed to become leaner in order to offer its customers airplanes at reduced costs and improved quality. Company executives traveled to Japan, where they studied concepts that would become known as Lean just-in-time delivery, error-free production, and continuous flow (M. Jenkins, 2002).
