What is the size of your network, and why is the size of your network important?

I started with 8 individuals that I thought would be good in helping me get promoted or find a new job as a way to look into my career network. After listing 8 people, I ranked them by most close to me to least close to me. My list is a bit smaller because I have only been working in my career for about a year and have been working with the same team the entire time I've been at this job. I haven't networked much outside of my project team. It is important to know the size of your network because you can better understand how to improve to benefit yourself in a career center way. I want to know if I need to focus more on branching out or getting closer with my people.

Calculate the density of your network. Why is the density of your network important?

I started with my 8 people. Then I found my maximum density which was 28. I then counted how many of them knew each other and I got 20. 20 divided by 28 is .7142 which is 71.42% as my network density. I would say this number is a little high. My network is a little too close knit and I might not have much uniqueness with these people since a lot of us all know each other. Some of us would even go up for the same job. My density is important to understand so I can have a better concept of how to improve it. In this case, I should probably add some new people to my network that do not already know the people in my network so I can branch out a little more to given myself more opportunities in my career.

In what ways can we take information on social networks and use them in interventions?

I can take this information and use them in interventions by continuing to grow my network. As I mentioned before, I have worked with the same team since starting this job and often do not interact with other teams; however, I do have the opportunities too if I use them. I can start to grow my network by using any networking opportunities to connect with new people. I can work towards having an even stronger supportive community. I can use this information to expand my network to people who are dissimilar to challenge my strategies.
