How to respond to the DQ answer. Do you agree

This podcast discusses the history of how we have all been told about the need to reduce, reuse, and recycle in order to do our part to contribute less waste into the environment, but Lewis (2022) argues that that is too small scale. There are great innovations happening around plastics to make them break down more easily to be reused in other things, but it is still very expensive to do. The podcast talks about how eventually, 80% of our plastics will be able to be converted into other things so less is going to the landfills in failed recycling attempts. This would benefit the planet on a much larger scale than leaving it up to individuals to reduce, reuse, and recycle. This way, the actual materials are being improved so they will have less of a negative impact when they are used since people are consuming more and more, not less. The problem the scientists who are working on this are having right now though, is that the brand new plastic from manufacturers is cheaper to use than recycled plastic. The technology is still being improved to make it as cheap and accessible to companies than raw plastics.
