How to respond to the DQ answer with citations

I believe that the greatest leaders are passionate about supporting the emerging leaders around them, are continuously working to improve their emotional intelligence, and recognize that strong team culture is a cornerstone for teamachievement With that being said, let's start with our authoritarian leader Doctor Ruth.

Authoritarian Leader

Only allows minimum input from the team

Destroy creativity and innovation

Increase employee turnover

Dr. Ruth was the type of leader who considers herself extremely knowledgeable. She would give directives because she saw herself as a superior being (because she had a Ph.D.). Before Dr. Ruth was hired, our work environment was connected and collaborative but after she arrived it became toxic! I was a Project Manager for five years and had been working hard to build our department with other teams and the executive team. I scheduled two to three meetings per week with other departments simply trying to build relationships and explaining the resources we had available. I invited the new Director to one of the meetings. I observed a different aspect of her; it was comparable to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

I introduced her to the team leader and she expressed immediately that she was in charge in that going forward the team leader must connect with her for future meetings. I could see the smile slowly diminish from her face as she stood in awe at what she just heard. Heck, I didn't know what to say! In her presentation to the team, she still came off cold and harsh and people did not like it. She did not make any friends that day. I instantly felt all my hard work slipping away because they hired this woman. She dominated conversations and required people to call her doctor Ruth. Clearly, that was putting people. I was embarrassed by her actions. I knew that I would have to use all my leadership training to deal with this director.

Servant Leader

Putting staff ahead of themselves

Promote innovation and empower employees

Develop leadership qualities in others

Frank epitomizes what servant leadership looks like. Willing to serve, great attitude, and pushing me out of my comfort zone. From the very first day that I met Frank, he was constantly serving and asking what he could do better. During his first week there we went to lunch two to three times so that we could start building a working relationship. I was taken aback by this type of attitude and was relieved that we could be a strong team.

Frank and I worked on a project that required cross-functional teamwork with other departments. I was responsible for building the design layout of the dashboard but got behind schedule. I went to frank to let him know what was going on and he immediately asked what he could do he jumped in and helped me reach my deadline. A servant leader will put an individual ahead of themselves to help them reach a goal. That day I gave him just a little more respect because I saw that he was the type of Director who was not afraid to jump in and help with any task. I was empowered to take point on this project, and I request a daily 15-minute daily meeting in order to stay on task. This action showed frank that I was serious about getting this project done in by the deadline. Lastly, we would meet to discuss some of the qualities that make a good leader such as listening, empathy, stewardship, and personal growth (Kenton, W 2022). I believe these conversations allowed us to broaden our perspective on leadership and made us better people.
