How to respond to the following dq answer in 250 words. Provide references
Prior to Steve Jobs returning as CEO of Apple, the company was in a traditional organizational structure. Upon his return, he laid off all of the general managers and restructured the organization into a "functional organization that aligns expertise with decision rights--a structure that Apple retains to this day"(Harvard Business Review,2020) This change was designed to create and lead innovation for their products, in a market that is always changing and evolving. By allowing individuals with high expertise to be the ones making the decision, you are relying on those who understand both the technology and the industry to make decisions on the next steps of the product. This has allowed Apple to remain the household name it is, and continue to dominate the markets they are involved in. Having this organizational model, where everyone answers to the CEO, and decision making is trusted to highly knowledgeable individuals has worked for Apple, and they are one of the few companies of their size to retain this model after they grew.
Unfortunately, a lean model would not help these models with innovation. Given that a lean model focusses on cost savings and efficiency, innovation is not an ongoing need for those companies in this model. R&D is very expensive, and what most people don't tell you is R&D researches more bad ideas than they do good ones, and those ideas have high costs. A lean model would see these bad ideas as waste, and so therefore not pursue them.
