Like many other large corporations that compete on a global scale, Northrop Grumman uses a multi-divisional structure. In some of these organizations, the parent company simply provides funding to its divisions or independent profit centers while letting those entities have autonomy for developing their own business strategies (Cosper, 2021). However, unlike many of these large companies, the "parent" company does not provide funding to the independent divisions. Each division has contractual obligations to the customers that we provide goods and services to, and those contracts provide the funding to each of those divisions. Each project has an agreed upon dollar amount that sits in a collection of accounts to fund everything that is happening. This multidivisional structure gives each divisions Presidents the autonomy to do what they feel is necessary to get the job accomplished.

A lean business model for Northrop Grumman could work I suppose. It would take an incredible amount of work to get there, however. During the development phase of our new products though, lean is not something that would work. Nothing is completed quickly during development and with all of the new ideas flowing in constantly, there tends to be quite a bit of waste.
