Questions from Preliminary Overview of a Research Project

1. How relevant is the research problem to the practice of nursing?

Black males are one of the most underserved population as it relates to heathcare. Whether it is because of personal preference, beliefs, or access to care, black males do not seek

healthcare of often as needed. Poor knowledge and awareness, negative perceptions and attitudes, fear and lack of privacy, and negative experiences leading to poor access and

utilization of campus health services. These findings highlight the need for continued promotion, advocacy and awareness about available services (Khumalo, 2012 pg. 7).

1. Was the study quantitative or qualitative?

This study is a qualitative study. Qualitative research is multimethod in focus, involving an interpretative, naturalistic approach to its subject matter. This means that qualitative

researchers study things in their natural settings, attempting to make sense of, or interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them. Qualitative research involves

the studied use and collection of a variety of empirical materials - case study, personal experience, introspective, life story, interview, observational, historical, interactional, and

visual texts - that describe routine and problematic moments and meanings in individuals' lives (Asper & Corte, 2019, pg. 142). This research evaluates Black men experiencing

chronic disabling conditions and negotiating health promoting activities.

1. What was the underlying purpose of the study?

The purpose of the study was evaluating the etiology and harm of reasons why Black men address their health in the matter that they do. Black men are more likely to develop certain conditions or have worse outcomes from those conditions. The reasons for this are often some combination of genetic, social, and economic factors. Some of the reason include lack economic stability, lower education access and quality of that education, healthcare access and quality due to black men being under insured, location of nearest health care facilities, and socially black men has a medical mistrust due to the history of the negative healthcare disparities of the population.

1. What might be some clinical implications of this research? To what type of people and settings is the people most relevant? If the findings were accurate, how might/use the results of this study.

One of the main clinical implications of this research is that there is a mistrust between young black men and healthcare providers. This implication impacts the black male population at a large rate. The individuals that this research is most relevant to are young black males. This information is very accurate, and the results of this study can be used to education health care professions on how important it is to consider lack economic stability, lower education access and quality of that education, healthcare access and quality due to black men being under insured, location of nearest health care facilities, and socially black men has a medical mistrust due to the history of the negative healthcare disparities of the population. The knowledge of this informative can empower healthcare professions to provide holistic care the young black male.

1. Why do you think the researcher audio recorded and transcribed their in-depth interviews with study participants?

Audio recording and transcribing interview information is an important and affective way to summarize and analyze data collected during an interview.

1. Do you think that it would be appropriate for the researcher to use quantitative research method? Why or Why not?

I personally believe that a quantitative research method will not be affective for this research. Quantitative research focuses more on collecting and analyzing numerical data. This research study focuses on the rationale of why there are health and disability among young black men. Key findings from this study explored four reoccurring themes to include: 1. maintaining manhood, 2. economic constraints, 3. the risk of health care, and 4. health promotion (Polit &Beck, 2022, pg. 19). None of this information is comprised on numerical value or information.
