How would you reply to this classmate?
empathy feels connections, sympathy drives connection, pity feeling bad for someone else's suffering.
Having empathy with your client is super important when creating a relationship. Like she said in the video it's like recognizing the other persons perspective on their life. Basically placing yourself in their shoes to see how they are living and feeling. Having sympathy is seeing them in pain and feeling for them and guiding them. But you are not feeling with them if that makes sense. Having sympathy is important because you have to help them without feeling their feelings. This is important because this won't fog your judgement when creating plan with them. Having pity isn't always a good thing because it can make them feel judged at times.
