How would you respond to the following post?

What personal capacities should a person develop to be a good leader versus those that develop to be a good manager?

Since I have played in both roles I can only give my opinion.Being a leader is someone a person or a group will learn from when they follow.A leader that can teach as well as learn from others. Be one with the group. A manager can be someone that does his/her job as managing others and just concentrates on doing their job and making sure others are doing there's.

Why do you think there are so few people who succeed at both management and leadership?

I've personally worked with those that I have literally scratched my head on how they were in that position. It takes someone with broad shoulders and an open mind to be a success at both. You have to be willing to take the good with the bad.

Is it reasonable to believe someone can be good at both?

In my opinion yes I do believe someone can be successful at both. Two of most important things that I know is how you treat someone and how you talk to someone. If you don't have respect then you're not going to be good at either position.
