How would you respond to this peer's discussion post in a meaningful and thoughtful way and are there ant further questions?

Private security is a for-profit business and client-based service, rendered and paid for by private funds. There are a wide range of products and services from guards, IDS, alarm systems, transportation/armored cars, to loss analysis. The list of clienteles ranges from individuals, businesses, institutions, government agencies, to transportation. The primary focus is on loss prevention, protection of assets, detection and deterrence. Uniform guards are usually found in malls, hospitals, department stores, residential buildings. They safeguard assets, people, prevent theft and other criminal acts. They do not possess the power to arrest. Their duty and responsibility are to their clients. Public police, on the other hand, are public servants and are paid for through public funds. LE has greater authorities to include the power to arrest and apprehend, crime investigations, search and seizures, traffic stops, evidence collections, among others. They have extensive training and certificates that allow them to perform their job. They patrol public roads to prevent crime, respond to incidents and maintain order and discipline. Their responsibility is to the public citizens. (Private Security, Pg 4-5).

Both private security and public police shared common goals: to prevent crime, to reduce/deter crime, and to maintain order. As mentioned, the differences are who is paying them (citizen vs client), what their roles are (crime response vs. crime prevention), who they are serving (citizen vs. client), and what kind of services are being performed (LE apprehension vs. loss reduction). (Private Security, Pg 6).

Due to the increasing crime problem and lack of law enforcement man power to respond to every call of perceived or real needs of the citizen, many have turned to private security as an alternative means for protection and loss prevention. I agree that because of this need, private security services "add value" to the growing needs of society issue. Alarm systems, IDS, CCTV monitors, uniform guards, bodyguard play an important role in crime prevention. Services like these free up the police to respond to more serious crimes and to conduct investigations. Uniform guards, for example, can be a great resource for the police. He/she serves as the "eyes and ears" to observe and report any crime on the property. (Tarte, 2021). Their statements can be useful for LE to help identify a suspect in question or to answer the who, what, where, when why and how regarding an incident. Because security guards know their way around their client's property, they can assist law enforcement and provide access to certain parts of the building. (Nyblom, 2024). CCTV camera footage is another useful piece of information for LE to add to their investigation. Both entities working together can contribute to reducing crime, provide increased protection and enhance community safety. (United Nations on Drugs and Crime. (2014).
