HRM 4111 Assignment 2 - Recruitment Strategy (15%)
This assignment relates to the following Course Learning Requirements:
CLR #1 - Link recruitment and selection theories and best practices within an organization to a recruitment and selection plan in both individual and team settings
CLR #2 - Build employee recruiting theories and strategies into the design of a recruitment strategy.
Objective of this Assignment: To demonstrate the role of a senior HR leader in championing a recruitment and selection strategy and the importance of employer branding in strategic recruitment.
Instructions:
Step 1: Review the case incident below.
You are the lead HR professional for an organization that has experienced significant and continuous growth over the last 5 years. You did not have any difficulties filling vacancies in the first four years of operation. However, over the last 12 months it is becoming more and more difficult to source talent. Your recruitment needs are going to continue to increase and you are growing concerned about the situation. A talent shortage is only part of the issue. You have done some research and you believe there are two additional issues at play that are directly impacting your ability to recruit employees:
- The organization has not put any effort in developing an overall recruitment strategy. Until recently, hiring was successful through word-of-mouth tactics from current and formal employees which worked well for the first several years.
- Your research shows very low employer ratings on both Glassdoor and Indeed websites.
Step 2:
- Assume your audience is the executive of the company.
- Prepare a business case by creating a maximum 15 minute recorded presentation using Screencast or Vimeo which allows you to capture your screen which is showing your presentation and your voice only. You so not need to be on camera. Only submitting a recording of audio only is not a complete assignment.
- Instructions for this are included in the LMS and entitled "Using Screen Cast-O-Matic or Vimeo Instructions".
- The material presented must directly address the benefits of a recruitment and selection strategy and the impact of employer branding.
- Include 1-2 direct quotes from the course learning materials, and 4 - 6 additional points from external sources that analyze the direct quotes and explain how the evidence supports your viewpoint.
- Your business case should include the following:
- A brief summary of the issues and your viewpoint on the importance of adopting a recruitment strategy that is holistic in nature, rather than continuing to focus on individual hires as needed.
- Potential risks to the organization in the form of a risk analysis (simply discuss the risks to the organization);
- Your recommendation with rationale for wanting to develop an employer brand.
- The general steps you will take to develop the brand.
- What you will do to mitigate any further damage that could potentially result from the negative reviews that currently reside online.
- How you will communicate your approved plan to the rest of the management team, and the company at large?
Step 3: The assignment will be graded using the rubric on pages 3 and 4.
- Add a title to the beginning of your recording with the name of your report, your name, and the course name.
- Add a final 'credits' screen which includes a list of your references. Cite all your sources of information using APA formatting. Remember, personal communications from a professional in the field count as a reference source.
- Presentation is a maximum of 15 minutes. Only the link to your presentation is required for submission. No other documents should be submitted.
Tip: Tackle this assignment as if you are presenting in person. The difference is that you are recording your presentation on your screen and recording your audio as you present.
