The data is split into four main worksheets (REI, MDF, PEC, Days of operation) where the three first sheets contain information of the three factories that are in close relation. The worksheets are organized in the same manner. Rows approx. 3- 39 contain information about cement production, sales and purchases while rows approx.. 40-60 contain information about clinker, the main ingredient of cement. Please observe the PEC worksheet to analyze the problem which occur in CB54 cell and in days of coverage of cement in the last quarter of the year. Your goal is to analyze the problem and give possible solutions for it. The main task is to argue about pros and cons of the possible solutions as deep as possible. When you think of your solutions please consider the following information and questions: There are large customers who purchase 6-7000 tons/year Most partners are large partners. The larger the partner the lower the margin. Demand is at maximum from Apr-Nov. Supply is also at maximum at this period Maintenance and all other works at the factory have to be planned from Dec- Mar. How far in advance do you have to start to modify to reach your goal? Is it possible to import from another factory? What obstacles might it have to import from another factory? Is it affordable to import from another factory? (What types of costs should you build on?) From which factory should we import from? Does the other two factories have problems? Identify their problems according to the data! What product should we import from that factory? (cement or clinker) Penalty cost of not supplying has a penalty cost that can be three times the product cost. How can we handle this issue? Is it strategically okay to import from another company? Can we say to a customer that we are not able to ship? How would you negotiate? Which customers would you let go? Smaller or larger ones? Why
