HW#5A and B - Fun with Regression Part A: Using Excel, generate a table and use the regression formulas to compute the b1 and bo values from our catapult demonstration. [Optional extra point: Compute the R2 value] Part B: I like a mug of hot chocolate at night. The instant stuff works great...just add water to the mix, pop it in the microwave and I'm done...well, actually, it is a bit more complicated then that. Truth is: I am a bit fussy...I want my hot chocolate hot and I don't want it to take too long! Also, I need to stir in the mix, so the mug can't be too full of water when I put it in the microwave. Procedure: I put some (filtered) water in a mug and stick it in the microwave for 1 minute; then I stir in the mix, and add cold water to top it off. I experimented a few times and got the following results using a 10oz mug: Water Temperature after 1 minute 180 170 165 135 2 oz 4 oz 6 oz 9 oz Add mix Add Cold Water Final Temp 7 oz 5 oz 3 oz 0 oz 115 125 138 135 Plot the points and estimate a linear equation (use Water as the 'x' variable and 'Final Temp' as the \"y\" variable. How much water should I use to get the hottest mug of hot chocolate? ____________ Does this look like a linear plot (use Excel to get an R2 value). __________________ Would a non-linear model provide a better fit? ______________ How much water should be used with the new (non-linear) model? ____________ Priority 1: If you want to run a Linear Regression, make sure the model is linear
