Hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking", is the process of drilling below the surface of the earth and injecting liquid at high pressure into rock formations to extract oil and natural gas. As more states have approved fracking, an increasing number of U.S. adults have expressed concerns about its safety. A 2016 Gallup survey asked U.S. adults, "Do you favor or oppose hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, as a means of increasing the production of natural gas and oil in the U.S.?"
