I absolutely feel that the philosophy of the juvenile court system should be rehabilitative. All 50 US States currently have separate juvenile and adult courts. The juvenile court system is based on rehabilitation model. The assumption behind this type of system is that juveniles that are not treated will have a high potential of becoming adult offenders. And, that young offenders are actually willing to be rehabilitated (Simpson, 1976). Juvenile housed in a juvenile facility receive important counseling and educational tools that can be utilized once they are released from the facility. Putting a child in an adult system does not give them these opportunities. It also puts them in harm's way and I will assume makes them "hard". The chances of them becoming adult offenders is way too high when put into this situation
