I agree that many people do not realize that many states permit employers to fire employees at any time, for any reason (except for a few illegal reasons such as discrimination).

Do you think that this pervasive employment law or rule is unfair on its face? In the circumstance we are discussing, free speech, it would appear that an employee is very vulnerable for speaking their mind. There are exceptions of course under federal law, as other students have pointed out, as when an employee points out a safety issue, this is protected under federal law, but saying something that is different politically than your employers perspective could result in someone losing their job under this doctrine. Do you think this rule is an ethical one?
