Question:
Jorges Home Services LLC (JHS) is a home improvement retailer in Northern Virginia. JHS
does not employ installers, but rather subcontracts the installations out to a list of approved
installers. Whenever a customer comes to the store to request an installation service, a JHS
agent will help create a contract for the installation and instantly assign an installer to the job.
Afterwards, the installer will go to the customers house and complete the installation. JHS
often runs advertisements for specials such as guaranteed 10 days installation. Without a way
to effectively track and manage installations, installation jobs sometimes do not get completed
within the promised timeframe which has resulted in customer dissatisfaction.
You are hired by JHS to create a tracking system to automatically track all installations. Your
first job is to create a database for the tracking system. The database must keep track of each
JHS customer, including their unique customer ID, first name, last name, street address, city,
state, zipcode, and phone number. It should also record information of all approved installers,
including their unique installer ID, first name, last name, city, state, zipcode, phone number,
and daily rate (i.e., how much JHS pays to the installer for one days work). In addition, the
database should also keep information about each agent that helps handle and create the
installation contract, including the unique agent ID, first name, and last name. In order to
provide management with the information needed to effectively track installations, the
database should keep track of the details for each installation contract, including unique
contract ID, the ID of the agent who creates the contract, short descriptions of the requested
installation job, the ID of the customer who requests the service, service charge of the
installation (i.e., how much the customer pays to JHS for the installation service), the date the
contract is created by the agent, the ID of the installer assigned to complete the installation,
the date the installer starts to work on the installation, the date the installation is completed by
the installer, and the customers rating of the installers job after the job is finished.
Each installation contract is instantly assigned to one and only one approved installer. An
approved installer may be assigned to multiple installation contracts or may have not been
assigned to any installation contract. Each installation contract is created by one and only one
agent. Each agent may create multiple contracts or may have not created any contract. The database only records customers who has requested services from JHS. Each customer may
request multiple installations. Each particular installation is requested by only one customer
