**Assigned: An experimental surgical procedure is being studied as an alternative to the existing method. Twelve surgeons perform the operation on two different patients matched by sex, age and other relevant factors. The time to complete the procedure for each technique is listed in the table below.

Problem Definition: Determine whether or not the new procedure is faster than the existing procedure. Alpha is set at .01. Utilize the six-step process to test the hypothesis the new procedure is faster the than the old procedure. One tailed test to the left.

Utilize all three techniques in your conclusion (critical value/critical ratio, confidence interval and pvalue. Include the numbers from the Minitab output for each technique or points will be deducted.

Add a section labeled Assumption in which you will place your boxplot. Below the boxplot discuss how you know whether or not normality may be assumed. Be sure to discuss whisker lengths, skew in addition to assessing normality.

Problem Defintion

Find out whether a new surgical procedure is faster than the current surgical procedure.

Hypothesis

Ho: 0

H 1: >0

Decision Rule:

If the critical ratio for t is < -1.796 we reject the null hypothesis

Conclusion:

Reject null. T critical ratio of -7.94 < -1.796 critical value we fail to reject the null hypothesis.

Interpretation:

Difference is not significant, with indicates new procedure is not significantly faster than the existing.
