note: the part A and B of question 4 are the only things needed, once those have been done I will be able to do the rest myself.
Historical cost information from similar student health center and infirmary projects at other public universities in the Midwest Springfield, Macomb, Wichita, Terre Haute, Jonesboro, University Location Missouri Illinois Kansas Indiana Arkansas Year Constructed 2018 2016 2019 2014 2020 Size (sf) 18,180 17.490 19,260 20.430 22,890 Site preparation $314,004 $271,878 $326,893 $310,522 $411.169 Foundation $575,675 $526,135 $629,590 $575,760 $840,789 Superstructure $680,343 $654,521 $722,951 $657,508 $899,433 Electrical $471,007 $412,349 S506,459 $460.491 $681,988 Fire protection $52,333 $49,843 $55,355 $49.400 $69,844 HVAC airside $448,137 $418,195 $484.406 $428,060 $643,232 Plumbing $261,671 $246,705 $275,507 $241,126 $352,526 Mechanical Equip $284,767 $252,042 $301,893 $265,609 $405,154 Exterior enclosure $1,151,352 $1,063,348 $1,207,082 $1,048,015 $1,565,611 Roofing $52,333 $47,829 $55,252 $47,048 $73,798 Interior Construction $314,004 $283,961 $326,034 $275,235 S430,937 Interior Finishes $575,675 $515,058 S601,587 $511.068 $804,548 * These previous projects and costs are fictional, for educational purposes only. Assignment Instructions: 1. Using the construction cost information provided, create a preliminary conceptual-level cost estimate for the fictional proposed new 20,000 square feet 2-story Student Health Center & Infirmary building to be constructed on the SIUE campus. 2. We will assume that construction cost has escalated by 3% per year, each year since 2014, and will escalate this year by 3% again. Hint: Escalation compounds year to year! At 3% escalation per year, after 4 years the escalation is not 12%. Remember this from your business & finance classes? At 3% escalation per year, after 4 years the escalation is found by 1.03 which works out to 12.551%. 3. Assume that the construction of the new project will occur in 2022. 4. Use Project Comparison Method Estimating for this assignment, and use the adjustment formula given on Slide 29 of Lecture 5A on September 21. Do this for each of the 12 line-item scopes of work in the table above. a. But first! - you must adjust each of the 12 line-item scopes of work to account for differences in square footage of their respective project, to get an apples-to-apples" comparison. b. Then! - you must adjust each of the 12 line-item scopes of work to account for cost escalation from that construction year to the new project construction year. C. After that - you can apply the formula given on Slide 29 of Lecture 5A on September 21. 5. For this assignment, we will not attempt to adjust construction costs for differences in labor practices in various cities, higher/lower material costs in different cities, differences in design or materials used, etc. Historical cost information from similar student health center and infirmary projects at other public universities in the Midwest Springfield, Macomb, Wichita, Terre Haute, Jonesboro, University Location Missouri Illinois Kansas Indiana Arkansas Year Constructed 2018 2016 2019 2014 2020 Size (sf) 18,180 17.490 19,260 20.430 22,890 Site preparation $314,004 $271,878 $326,893 $310,522 $411.169 Foundation $575,675 $526,135 $629,590 $575,760 $840,789 Superstructure $680,343 $654,521 $722,951 $657,508 $899,433 Electrical $471,007 $412,349 S506,459 $460.491 $681,988 Fire protection $52,333 $49,843 $55,355 $49.400 $69,844 HVAC airside $448,137 $418,195 $484.406 $428,060 $643,232 Plumbing $261,671 $246,705 $275,507 $241,126 $352,526 Mechanical Equip $284,767 $252,042 $301,893 $265,609 $405,154 Exterior enclosure $1,151,352 $1,063,348 $1,207,082 $1,048,015 $1,565,611 Roofing $52,333 $47,829 $55,252 $47,048 $73,798 Interior Construction $314,004 $283,961 $326,034 $275,235 S430,937 Interior Finishes $575,675 $515,058 S601,587 $511.068 $804,548 * These previous projects and costs are fictional, for educational purposes only.
