I am back again to further discuss "Birds of a Feather" and continue discourse!
Under the section "Isomorphic Sources: Occupational, Family, and Informal Roles," of "Birds of a Feather," I personally was interested to read that studies have found that individuals who hold the same positions or roles in a workforce tend to influence one another in the adoption of innovations. (Burt,1982)
Furthermore, continuing to dissect this section of text, previous studies of workplace environments have found that "advice, respect, and support networks" are not just shaped by the structure of the work institution as a whole, but moreso by the organizational / departmental population at an individuals personal level or job title in the company. (Ibarra 1992,1995, Brass 1985.)
My question to you is: In previous work environments or organization environments you have been a part of, have you found that you tend to associate yourselves more with people who do not share your same or similar position or status? OR do you tend to associate yourself with those who do not?
