I am having trouble coming up with a word problem. So, come up with a word problem as a task for students to explore modeling and describe its connections to the Five Strands of Mathematical Proficiency. You will then come up with a narrated presentation to share this problem and its proficiency connections with your colleagues.

The Five Strands of Mathematical Proficiency help learners and instructors evaluate progress toward higher-level application of mathematical concepts, skills, and processes, such as mathematical modeling (Barham. 2020). The goal should be to make the five strands explicit to students. When we think about mathematical modeling and real-world connections the tasks that we create impact possible learning.

1. Come up with a mathematical word problem that connects to mathematical modeling as explored in this course. Situate the problem for a specific group of students.
2. Have a 3- to 5-minute narrated presentation to support other teachers in understanding the Five Strands of Mathematical Proficiency using the word problem you created in # 1.
3. Describe the connections to the five strands and explain how students can show proficiency in at least three strands.
4. Conclude the task (word problem/narrated presentation) with a reflection on your shift in focus to mathematical modeling through this course. Describe how the five strands supported this aspect of learning and how they fit into your practice as both a learner and an educator.
