Week $2$ Discussion: Descriptives and Data Visualization

The purpose of data analysis is to use statistical techniques to analyze available data for the purpose of enhancing decision$-$making. Since we are still working on the importance of descriptive statistics and visualization, we will do something a little different for this week$$s discussion posts. I want you all to use our library subscription to Statista to find and critique a statistical report on something important to you. This can be a product that you use, a company you admire, or something important to your major or career. Follow the instructions to find a full report $($not a $1-$page infographic$),$ download either the PPT or PDF $($doesn$$t matter, they are the same just in different formats$),$ fully answer the questions here, and attach the report to your post.

To access Statista, go to the university library homepage. This is a very expensive site, so use the link in the left$-$margin menu in Canvas to make sure the SSO gives you access. Once there, choose Electronic Resources and Databases. Scroll down until you see Statista, then click on it$.$ A login applet will likely appear; be sure to click continue with SSO and it should take you to the site.

Once on the Statista website, access the Reports tab in the top menu. It will be located directly under the Statista logo$.$ Once in the Reports menu search either by category $($Company or Consumer$/$Product$)$ or search all until you find something that interests you and download it$.$ All of these reports should be entirely graphs and charts, so it doesn$$t matter whether you choose PPT or PDF$.$ Answer the following questions based on the information presented in your report:

Overall, what did you think of the way the information was presented?

Which $3$ slides did you think provided the best source of information in an easy$-$to$-$read format? Explain your answer.

Which $3$ slides did the worst job of providing easy to use visual information? Why did you think this $($i$.$e$.,$ too much on one slide, tried to longitudinal for cross$-$sectional information, not enough on one slide, partial picture of the scenario, etc.$)?$

Based on the entire report $($not just a couple slides$),$ what was the overall theme$($s$)$ that the researchers portrayed in the dossier and how would you use this information as a potential investor? Put differently, briefly tell us the lasting thought or impressions that stuck with you after only reading through the charts and graphs a time or two. Also, how would this lasting impression or theme guide you as an investor, shareholder, or executive for this company?

Be sure to attach the actual file to your discussion thread so that other students can see it $($you will not get credit for only pasting the link$).$

Please complete this and be sure to respond to at least $2$ people by March $17.$ You are required to comment on at least two posts from other students, and you are expected to read through all of them. Provide any references that you use APA format and include bibliography at the bottom of your post. Thank you for your cooperation.

$***$Note that the report itself will satisfy the reference requirements this week, but if you do use other sources, be sure to cite them correctly and provide the bibliography in APA $7$ format.

$***$Since you all have different locations and interests, most of you should choose different companies, products, and$/$or industries. At the very least, your observations and insights should be vastly different. To ensure that you are not just grabbing the first thing you see and sleepwalking through the assignment, understand that if multiple students use the same report, your answers will be rated based on how well you answered the questions relative to the other student$($s$)$ who used that report. It pays to be thorough and independent here.
