I am not currently in a virtual team. However, if I were to lead one, let's say from the ground up, or as a new lead, I would do the following. Set up initial meetings. The goal is to establish the team's goals and etiquette. Additionally, have portions of the meeting dedicated to team building chitchat. (Bailey-Hughes, 2018). As an aside, this small talk is most challenging for me. I tend to be focused on a goal and am irritated with chitchat within a meeting. As long as the team is able to do so, perhaps we just have a virtual meeting just to get to know each other. This may allow team members to view each other with empathy. The team etiquette needs to incorporate how we listen to each other, show up for each other, and share the time-zone cost by rotating meeting times.
