I am Sgt. Paul, writing to share the profound incident leading up to my Lumbar degenerative disc disease and spondylosis. I was a participant of B company 87th DSSB annual Field training Exercise (FTX) which was conducted March 2021. The FTX is conducted over the course of two weeks during which soldiers use skills previously learned during basic training such as Land Navigation, military movement drills, patrolling techniques, and Troop Leading Procedures, reacting to contacts ruck march, tactical combat casual care etc. The company was broken down into platoon to conduct most of the missions. Our first mission was to perform a 6-mile ruck from the road leading up to the site where we we're going to conduct the field exercise. The uniform to perform the ruck march was OCP uniform, helmet, IOTV with plates, and M4 weapon. We moved in tactical column formation and at different intervals we would have to react to fire and perform tactical casualty care. Whilst reacting to contact fire I dashed into the bushes where there was a slight slope, which I was unaware of, and I lost my balance and fell over, which caused me to receive injuries to my back and shoulders
