Problem 1: Depression and anxiety

Depression is a serious mental disorder that has been shown to respond very well to cognitive therapy. You want to test the effectiveness of cognitive therapy on a group of people suffering from anxiety. You select a random sample of 15 people diagnosed with anxiety disorder and treat them with cognitive therapy.

The following are the scores for the sample: 4, 3, 6, 2, 4, 6, 7, 5, 2, 1, 8, 9, 7, 4, and 10. Higher scores indicate more anxiety. Three times previously you administered a Likert-type scale, as a test of anxiety, and found there was an average score 6 points.

Independent variable:Cognitive therapy Dependent variable: Anxiety

State Mathematical Hypotheses: H0: H0: = 6 H1: 6

Hypotheses in words. H0: There is no effect of cognitive therapy on anxiety.

Hypotheses in words N1: There is an effect of cognitive therapy on anxiety.

What is the proper t-test? Single sample t-testOne-tailed or two-tailed? _
