I believe that double consciousness is possible. Even if there is a side that people clearly stand by, it doesn't mean you can't understand where other people are coming from. Sometimes it is essential to have double consciousness to see the whole picture in a situation. We live in a world where different types of perspectives are constantly clashing, so it makes sense for people start trying to understand other point of views. Naturally, people will need to step outside of their own world if they want to adapt to the outside world. In my experience, I've had to deal with a double consciousness of mine as well. Back when I was in school before college, mainly high school, I always had two perspectives of myself coexisting with each other. The first perspective was how I, and my family, saw myself and the other perspective was how I was perceived by other people at my school. These perspectives would constantly shift when I think about just being myself or trying to fit in with other people. It was difficult to unify myself as a person with myself as a student of a school's social environment. Luckily, now that my time in high school and before is over, I haven't had to really go through this anymore. With that being said, I believe that double consciousness exists.
