It's one of those common type of cognitive bias that has been extensively studied in social psychology. When people are self-serving bias they tend to process that is distorted by the need to maintain and enhance self-esteem, or tendency to perceive oneself in an overly favorable manner.Being self-serving is a common habit for people to take credit for a positive event or for any outcome, but will blame outside factors for negative events. This can effect all ages, culture,clinical diagnosis, and more it tends to occur widely across populations. People believe their failures are due to external factors , yet you're responsible for your successes. People are motivated to maintain positive views of self in a variety of different ways they may be strongly motivated to establish the positivity of this personal self by cognitively elaborating and emphasizing positive features of the self while, at the same time, dissociating the self from any potentially negative features.
