  1. Discuss the dilemma faced in your chosen video.
  2. Considering critical thinking and ethical decision making models learned in PHIL101, share what decision you would make in your chosen situation along with your reasons why.

I have chosen the Lifeboat Dilemma which essentially states that if everyone stays on the boat, everyone dies; but if some are sacrificed, the others may have a chance at survival. If I were put in this situation, it would be an extremely difficult decision to go through with because I believe that all life is valuable and important. If I had to make the decision though, I would choose to sacrifice a few for the greater good of others. However, if I made this decision, I would volunteer as the first to be sacrificed and I would ask for other volunteers as well. I would hate to force anyone out of the lifeboat so I would hope that there would be enough volunteers that nobody would have to be forced. If there were not any or enough volunteers, I think the most fair option (in this horrible circumstance) would be to vote. I alone could not put value on one's life, nor would I ever want to. But if there were not volunteers to save the others, I believe the best answer would be to vote on who might encourage the chance of survival for the rest of the group. Those that had the least to offer as far as survivability rate, would be voted as the sacrifices. It is an awful idea to think about but the decision would be made in hopes of the others surviving due to the sacrifices made.
