I have always felt like leadership plays a key role in the organizational behavior in any organization. According to Gilbert (2011) "They say that leadership is the art of getting others to do something you want done because they want to do it. Here are 10 ways we can all become a stronger leader.

1. Trust. Your managers, surgeons and staff are smart people with enough common sense to perform their duties without being micromanaged.

2. Delegate. You might feel the need to tackle all tasks yourself so everything "gets done right." When you delegate and share responsibility, you'll build trust in your staff, who'll gain a sense of ownership in the work they do and the needs of your facility.

3. Socialize. Get out from behind your desk at least twice daily.

4. Bond. When you're out and about, take the opportunity to make a connection with each member of your staff.

5. Praise. Compliment more than you criticize.

6. Help. Offering to help in the smallest ways builds something much bigger: camaraderie.

7. Inform.Share the financial's you're responsible for managing so staff in the trenches appreciate the true costs of surgery and care about trimming expenses as much as you do.

8. Listen. It's taken me years to appreciate how important listening-truly listening-is to being a good manager.

9. Relax. When you go on vacation, leave your cell phone and laptop behind.

10.Laugh. Health care is a serious business and all too often we check our senses of humor at the door.
