Our Proposal is "formal" in that it will contain formal elements, such as a title page, table of contents, etc. The formatting of the report body will also be slightly different.
WHAT ARE THE ASSIGNMENT DETAILS?
- This Proposal is treated as an "internal" document - you are writing it to the Chief Marketing Officer of Kelsey's. However, we are formalizing this Proposal because it will likely end up in the hands of others within the company.
- The Proposal template I am providing you (noted above) will show you how to format and organize the content, as well as how to construct the items in the front and the back of the report. I will also explain the content of each section within the template.
- You can assume that this proposal is "unsolicited," as the CMO did not ask for it. However, you can assume that they would be open to receiving this Proposal from you as it is meant to generate business/revenue and overall help improve customer retention long term.
Kelsey's Original Roadhouse is a Canadian restaurant chain.In fact, the founders of this restaurant are from the Niagara Region: read key pieces of its history HERE. In the Niagara area, there are three locations: two in St. Catharines and one in Niagara Falls.
Assume that you work for the Niagara Falls location as a Manager. You have worked in this role since January 2020, and your responsibilities include staff management, customer management and satisfaction, scheduling, payroll, and training, among other things. You are hoping to move up higher in the company when opportunities to advance to an executive role are available.
The Niagara Falls restaurant benefits from being located right on Clifton Hill, which is a busy tourist area, given its proximity to the Falls. However, there are many places to eat and drink on Clifton Hill, and there are numerous restaurants in Niagara Falls in general, which means that your location is in direct competition with many other establishments.
It is Spring 2022, and you will soon be preparing the staffing levels and menus for a busy summer, especially since COVID restrictions will soon be lifting in Ontario. This should drive an influx of customers to the area and to your Kelsey's location.You've started to consider how your restaurant can market itself to stand out from the others during such a potentially prosperous timeframe.
One of the busiest parts of the summer for your restaurant falls on Canada Day; in 2022, this holiday is on Friday, July 1. You know, from working in your position, that this provides a prime opportunity to bring in lots of revenue, an important goal to have given the financial losses that have occurred over the past two years during various shutdowns and limitations.
You recognize this is a professional opportunity: what if you were to formally propose one new Canada Day promotion to your boss, the Chief Marketing Officer, that, if successful, they could send along to other management for implementation across all Kelsey's locations next year?Your Niagara Falls Kelsey's could be the trial location for this idea. The promotion could be designed and marketed to a certain demographic (kids, families, etc.), while still keeping Canada Day celebrations in mind.You would involve your other co-workers to help you develop and implement your idea. Your submitted proposal would show that you care about the company and its success, while also showing your initiative as someone who is interested in advancing to a higher position.

- July 1 (Canada Day) should involve a special component of the promotion.
What do I mean by "promotion"? Here are some ideas to start with that you could add other elements to:
- A family meal promotion.
- A kids meal promotion.
- A drink promotion for those of legal age.
- A promotion centred around one of their signature dishes.
Whatever you decide, remember that it has to link directly to Canada Day celebrations.
The promotion should involve free giveaways, contests, or something similar, along with an emphasis on food and/or drink. In other words, make this a multi-layered promotion.
