"I have two puppies and one of our favorite games is fetch. The action I am choosing is the bouncing of a ball during a game of fetch.

Newtons third law indicates that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

When the ball is thrown and hits the floor, the force of the ball is pushing off the floor and the floor is also pushing against the ball. During this time, elastic energy from when the ball is compressed during contact with the floor is converting to kinetic energy as it continues to move and bounce. Interestingly, when the ball makes contact with the floor, for a split second it becomes a stationary object right before the movement proceeds.

The bouncing of the ball is an example of newtons law because there is an action, the throwing of the ball which while in movement has kinetic energy. The ball then has a reaction once it bounces off the floor. The action reaction is evidence of Newtons third law.

The ball will have different reactions based on many factors. For example, on a windy day the ball may bounce but instead of bouncing on a straighter path the wind can push against it causing it divert. The ball may bounce higher if it comes into concrete rather than carpet or grass because the solid ground will not absorb much of the kinetic energy but will instead allow the kinetic energy to go back into the ball. The material of the ball such as solid rubber or a ball filled woth air will influence the behavior of the ball once it bounces. For example, a ball filled with air will have the air inside the ball compress upon impact and that air will expand which will cause it to bounce higher. Also considering gravity which pulls heavier, solid objects to the ground with less bounce compared to an air filled ball. "

In responding to your classmates' posts, think about some of the descriptions from the text relating to force and motion. (Based on physics text reading: Chapter 3: Two-Dimensional Kinematics, & Chapter 4: Dynamics: Force and Newton's Laws of Motion.) Add your response about how the other laws of motion apply. Consider an additional real-world example that you've seen that could be explained by a similar interaction.
