My Answer:

An example of my own behavior that could be explained by the self-esteem motive is raising my son/being a mom. As a mom to a now teenage boy, I am always worried if i've done everything right. Did I give him enough affection growing up? Did I teach him all the right things? Am I doing a good job or being a good Mom? I always have that self doubt, even when I ground him I wonder if I'm too harsh on him. Just recently my son took his driving test and passed, he also received an A on his math test and is top of class. I'm always so proud and I know how smart he is, but I'm still shocked with everything that he does. I'm always prepared to be there and pick him up when he doesn't do well, even though deep down I know he will do amazing.

There are several behaviors and many ways the self-esteem motive is involved with my example. I feel like the part of me is worried if I'm good enough or being a good mom would fall under self-handicapping. As far as my son doing well in areas and me being afraid of his failures I think is an example of self-serving attribuitions.
