STAT 2470 Hypothec Testing Lab - Errors This lab consists of problems that pertain to the Z-Test. In these cases, the population standard deviation, o, is known. While this is a rather unrealistic scenario, it makes studying other aspects of the hypothesis test much easier. 1. Suppose the IQ in a population is normally distributed with a mean of @ = 100 and a standard deviation of a = 15. A scientist wants to know if a new mediation affects 10 scores, so she recruits 20 individuals to use it for one month and records their scores on an IQ test at the end of the month, and the sample mean IO score was x = 103.05. We want to perform a hypothesis test to decide whether there is evidence that the new medication increases the average IQ value. a. What is the parameter we are testing? b. What are the hypotheses for this test. You can use proper symbols, such as #, but can also use words to represent these, such as "mu" for u, NE (not equal) for #, GTE (greater than or equal) for 2, and LTE (less than or equal) for s. C. What is the distribution of the sample mean, assuming the null hypothesis is true? d. What is the value of the test statistic for this hypothesis test? e. What is the p-value for this test? Try to use the poor function in R to calculate this! f. What would be your decision for this test? g. Write a summary conclusion for this test. h. Could you have committed a type | error here? Why or why not? i. Could you have committed a type II error here? Why or why not? The following parts will reflect the items in the Pre-Lab, such as calculating type I and type II error rates. If you run into challenges with this, please let me know! j. What is the decision rule here? In other words, what is the threshold IQ score for which the null hypothesis would be rejected when a = 0.057 k. Suppose that threshold is increased to 107 (we reject the null hypothesis if > > 107). What is the value of a? Assuming we use the decision rule from part (ki, that we reject H, if x => 107, what is the value of 8(104 ) ? m. Create a sequence of values starting at 101 and ending at 115, with increments of 0.2, storing these in a variable. n. Calculate the type II error rate for each of these values, storing them in a variable. 0. Create a graph of your type ll error rates, including a vertical line at 100. Once you have completed the above, please copy and paste both your R code as well as your graph at the end of this jab, and then please submit this word document to Backboard
