What I discussed in my assignment:

A thermal power plant generates electricity by burning coal or gas and the heat generated helps to turn water into steam. The steam then turns turbines, which are connected to electric generators that produce electricity. During coal combustion, carbon dioxide and other gases are emitted as byproducts, but these gases can be captured before they enter the atmosphere.

Combustion is a chemical reaction in which a reactant is heated to such a state that it ignites and burns. In thermal power plants, the combustion of fuel takes place at high temperatures within a furnace called a boiler or furnace. The primary objective of this process is to convert heat energy into mechanical or electrical energy.

Thermal power plants provide the electricity that fuels our homes and businesses, powering everything from computers to refrigerators. They also use these thermal power plants for heating water for your home or business, as well as industrial processes and the production of steam.

Negatives: The thermal power plants that burn coal or other fossil fuels to generate electricity are one of the main sources of air pollution. These plants release large quantities of sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter and mercury into the atmosphere, damaging ecosystems and harming human health. The plant also consumes a large amount of water for cooling purposes which results in a huge loss of potable water resources.

Positives: Thermal power plants are world-renowned for the amount of eco-friendly power they produce. They use renewable resources, do not produce emissions and require very little land space to operate.
