Having a multicultural origin, growing up in Peru, and extensively traveling surrounded me with various cultures and worldwide viewpoints. I have long been captivated by the complex tapestry of human thoughts and behaviors. Coming from a background in teaching and journalism, I am interested in pursuing aPh.D. program in Psychological and Brain Sciences, specificallyin cognitive psychology, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, because I have spent more than twenty years as an educator observing how children perceive the world. I am deeply fascinated with the subtleties of human cognition, specifically how our memories impact our identities and interactions.

My determination to learn more about cognitive psychology was professional and deeply personal. I have often wondered what causes us to react to obstacles in life in such different ways. Why do humans who are presented with the same issue respond in different ways and see dissimilar options for solving it? What happened in their brains and perception? What is the variable in their brains for it to happen? My desire to go into the field of cognitive psychology in the Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, was highly motivated by this topic, as I am always looking for solutions that would transform how we approach inclusivity, empathy, and education.

Furthermore, I had experience as a journalist in the written press at "Diario La Opinion," in Huarmey, radio "Huarmey" and other stations, and the municipality of Huarmey television, having the position of Public Relationist. Also, I worked for the Central Military Hospital of Peru as a civilian employee in communications. That participation provided me with a fantastic research experience of people's lives. It was one of the critical turning points that fueled my passion for this area. In addition to discovering stories of resiliency through my job performance, I also became aware of how identity and family dynamics were impacted by patient memory loss. This insight strengthened my resolve to investigate the brain underpinnings of memory and cognition to empower people dealing with comparable difficulties.

To succeed in bringing change, I want to investigate insightful ways to help the youth struggling within the current educational system find their path and achieve their triumph as they are the next generation of this world. As a future researcher, I am committed to bridging the gap between theoretical understandings of cognitive psychology and workable, in-class solutions. It will be my legacy: establishing an authentic environment where different mental capacities are understood and valued. I aim to create specialized tactics so every person has the same opportunities to have real support from the facilitators and our society. My decision to pursue a Ph.D. program in Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is one of my highest dreams as a student of this unique and incredible community, which opened its doors by believing in me, and providing me not only solid support but also helping me to follow my dreams, even though I am 54 years. UNLV could see my strong desire to help humanity. Even more, when our President Keith Whitfield shared the fantastic trajectory of his achievements in life, it inspired me more to continue my desire to help create a better world through research in the psychological and brain sciences. Mr. Whitfield is my hero because in the most challenging moments I went through, I lost several family members because of COVID-19, guiding me to the right doors, with the right people, to get the help I need. In my heart, gratitude exists not only for this amazing person, our president, Keith Whitfield but for this institution.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas's commitment to inclusivity and innovation, always in permanent growth, resonates with my core values. I deeply envision the University of Nevada, Las Vegas's Ph.D. program in Psychological and Brain Sciencesas an environment that will nurture my passion for cognitive psychology, becoming not just my instructional institution but a true academic home. I am sincerely committed to significantly impacting the lives of many children by instilling the belief that their cognitive journeys are meaningful and deserving of celebration with the help of distinguished mentors and cutting-edge tools.

So, my quest for a Ph.D. program in Psychological and Brain Sciences - cognitive psychology area at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is, in essence, more than a purely academic undertaking; it is also a reflection of my deep desire to understand the mysteries of the human mind, a passion that has been stoked by my particular life experiences and the people I have met along of my road which started in Peru and continue here at United States. Through my research interest, I aim to turn obstacles into opportunities for every child to have an inclusive and meaningful educational experience. That will reflect in their entire lives and their loved ones.
