Imagine that you work for a theme park and your department makes project proposals for new rides or attractions for the 9-13-year-old age group. You and your leadership team are trying to determine which project to approve. You only have the capacity to approve one. Use the weighted decision matrix (WDM) to recommend which of the three projects should be pursued. You will need to use your imagination and contemplate which level of risk you would be comfortable with as the project manager.

Project 1
An intense thrill ride, which gives the rider the experience of escaping from an avalanche. Users will be securely restrained in a standing position on 'skis', with shoulder harnesses. For safety, riders must be at least 53 inches tall. The ride will be on a track, (like a roller coaster). The ride must be inside, which means a new building must be constructed. Air-conditioned fans and light mist will reproduce the feeling of a bitter-cold winter day. A combination of screens, projections, and light effects will show the avalanche coming down all around the rider. At one point the ride will go dark and it will appear that the snow has consumed the rider before they burst out into the bright sunlight and arrive safely at the foot of the mountain.

Project 2
A riverboat ride that gives the rider the experience of drifting down a river in the jungle. Boats can carry up to 8 individuals and will be on a track for safety. During multiple sections of the ride, there will be rapids that rush the boat downstream, generating moderate splashes. There will be one large drop where photos will be taken, which will be available for sale at the end of the ride. Animatronics will be used for a variety of animals that move. At one point on the ride a python snake will drop down from a limb and hiss a few feet from the boat before retracting and there are animatronic crocodiles near the riverbanks. This ride can be outside but will require a large amount of landscaping and scenery to give the rider the feeling of being immersed in the jungle.

The ride will give the participant the feeling of flying the dragon through the skies, over forest, meadow, and fiery landscapes, and through a kingdom. Different fantastical creatures will be in the scenery, including unicorns, fairies, griffins, and so on. Animatronics within the kingdom will include the king, a princess, knights, citizens, and farm animals. The ride will have three points throughout that will take photos that will be available for purchase at the end of the ride.

To complete the weighted score, multiply the weight by the score and input that number into the box. You can do whole numbers or percentages, whichever you prefer, as long as you are consistent.
