1 Project Description A hands-on project (20% of the overall course grade) is required in this course in order to complement the theoretical aspects of the curiculum. The requirements are: . The project must involve feedback control to a mechatronics system, .e., you must use transducers (e.g., sensors) and actuators (e.g., motors) to regulate the output. A type of PID control (explained later in the course) must be used . The project must be delno-able, i.e., it must work. A design without physical imple- mentation or simulation is not acceptable. A default project topic is provided: Build and program a two-wheel self-balag robot capable of playing the Bocce game. Lego and Makeblock Ultimate 2.0 robotic kits are available .Other project ideas that involve PID control are welcome, but must be approved by the instructor. Improving an ongoing project is also allowed; however, you must show the improvement by implementing a PID controller. Essentially, you would need to justify how the knowledge you learned in this course helps you in that project in addition you must demo the improvement in a quantitative way. You are encouraged to consult the instructor about your project ideas. You are encouraged to form teams. Each team should have 1-3 members. In general more members a team has, higher project quality is expected. 2 Details of the default course project You will construct and program a robot, which is capable of playing the Bocce game. The jack or pallino is a wireless router which could be either at a fixed location or mobile. The goal of the robot is to get as close to the jack as possible after certain time. If you need the department to order parts for your project, please contact the instructor asap. for approval and the order form. The orders ususally are plaCEd on Mondays only. A competition will take place on Tie, Apr 24, 2018. The rules are: Each robot has two tries. The final distance bet ween the robot and the jack will be recorded in each try. The team with the smallest average distance is the winner of the competition The robot should be able to move without falling. If the robot falls, then the distance from the falling location to the jack is recorded The robot must be autonomous, i.e., no manual control is allowed. The operator is only allowed to issue a command to start the game The robot must stop moving within 2 minutes. This has to happen automatically .The robot must be able to avoid colliding with any objects 1 Project Description A hands-on project (20% of the overall course grade) is required in this course in order to complement the theoretical aspects of the curiculum.
