Set-Up . Go to the PhET simulation https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/collision-lab/latest/collision- lab_all.html Part I: One Dimensional Collisions Experiment and Data Collection 1. Choose the "Explore 1D" box from the menu. 2. Uncheck the "Reflecting Border" box in the upper right to remove the reflecting border. 3. On the lower left, check the "More Data" box. 4. In the ID Data Table, in the Collision 1 row, fill in the mass of each ball, as well as the initial horizontal velocity of each ball (include negative signs if relevant; these are vector components!). Do not record the values of momentum given. 5. Hit Play to see the collision. In the ID Data Table in the Collision 1 row, record the final horizontal velocity of each ball. Do not record the values of momentum given. 6. Reset the system and set everything back to the same initial conditions as in 1. (same velocities, masses etc...). Now slide the "Elasticity" meter from 100% to 50%. Repeat steps 1 and 2, this time recording your data in the Collision 2 Row. 7. Reset the system back to the conditions in 1 again. Slide the "Elasticity" meter to 0%. Repeat steps 1 and 2, this time recording your data in the Collision 3 Row. (Data Table:5 pts) 1D Data Table Collision # m1 mz V1,i V2,i V1,f V2, f 1 2 3 Calculations the r 1. For collision 1, using the values from the ID Data Table, calculate the total initial momentum of the system (the system is both balls) and the total final momentum of the system and enter them into the relevant columns in the ID Calculation Table. ach Do not use the momentum values given by the simulation. You must calculate the momentum sign values from your mass and velocity values in the ID Data Table only. Make sure your quantities have the proper units. Show your work below. (Ans: 10pts) isic I cc 2. For collision 1, using the values from the 1D Data Table, find the total kinetic energy of the system before the collision and the total kinetic energy of the system after the collision and enter them into the relevant columns in the ID Calculation Table. Make sure your quantities have their proper e th units. Show your work below. (Ans: 10pts)
