I need help with my weekly discussion.Can you please help with an example- Thanks!
What is a past or current issue in employment law in the United States?
- Explain how employment law was applied in the resolution.

This question is very open ended. There are many issues associated with employment.
You may want to consider the issues of discrimination in employment prompted by
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the
Family and Medical Leave Act, The National Labor Relations Act, the Landrum-Griffin
Act, the Wagner Act, and a host of other pieces of legislation that effect
employment and labor.
You can also consider various state laws that effect employment. The most recent development in this area is California's Assembly Bill 5. This deals with "gig workers" like Uber and Lyft drivers and defines their relationship as employer-employee rather than that of an independent contractor. See: Gig Workers. It is a major departure from the current state of the law. This has yet to be fully resolved in the courts but I expect some large legal challenges. Can you think of the possible legal arguments that either Uber or Lyft can make that would suggest that the state of California has overstepped its authority? What do you think? Feel free to respond.
