Hello all, According to Clegg et al. (2022): "Bureaucracy consists of a hierarchy of differentiated knowledge, expertise and rules. Rational-legal bureaucracies apply the rules universally, without favour or prejudice." This branch of the military model was made famous by renowned sociologist Max Weber. One of the advantages of bureaucracies is having a sense of authority and rationality. As we learned earlier in the module authority demands a higher level of respect than power due to its legitimacy Authority and rationality are main aspects of Weber's bureaucracy. One of the disadvantages of Weber's bureaucracy is it seems incomplete in its approach. Constant strict demands of the office can produce an environment that stifles creative mind. Miewald (1970) also states Weber was never able to complete his military sociology. Most of the critics of Weber's bureaucracy refer to the lack of innovation which occurs over time. Technological advancement has a profound impact upon the design and development of modern organization structures. Most of the daily operations within an organisation are done using technology. Digital Minimalism can also be used by organisations. Digital Minimalism is described by Cal Newport as a way for companies to use technology to their benefit. After focusing on what is most important to their team, members use technology in areas where they are most needed and beneficial to their success. Many organisations in the territory in which I live follow a bureaucracy. We have many companies offshore that a vested interest in our economy. The bureaucratic elements in our territory is a main reason for our lack of innovation. Rational-legal authority is standard and operational, but the most defining changes in the world have always occurred under charismatic authority. Clegg et al. (2022) mentions Nelson Mandela under charismatic authority. Mandela always fought for peace and equality as a charismatic leader. Bibliography Clegg, S., M. Pitsis, T. & Mount, M.
