The discussion :
The contemporary business world is experiencing significant changes impacting managerial operations. Factors such as technological advancements and globalization require managers to navigate diversity, digitalization, and knowledge workers effectively (Clegg, S; Pitsis, T. & Mount, M., 2002) In response, managers are adopting new approaches, shifting from hierarchical control to utilizing sense data for understanding the evolving environment. This involves considering factors like personality, perceptions, values, and their impact on performance and motivation (Clegg, S., Pitsis, T. & Mount, M., 2002). Effective communication is crucial for managers to comprehend organizational situations, as it is fundamental for sensemaking and the survival of organizational settings (Magala, 1995)
Acknowledging the importance of individual differences in personality is a significant change in managerial practices (Clegg, S., Pitsis, T. & Mount, M., 2002) Managers now recognize that employees have unique characteristics, strengths, and preferences that can be leveraged for enhanced performance and motivation. They are also aware of the impact of perceptions on employee performance, understanding that individuals interpret their work environment differently, which can influence motivation and productivity. By promoting a positive perception of the workplace through effective communication, transparency, and opportunities for feedback and involvement in decision-making, managers can boost employee engagement and job satisfaction.
Values also play a crucial role in contemporary management practices. Managers increasingly understand the importance of aligning organizational values with individual values to foster motivation and a sense of purpose among employees. This alignment has been shown to result in job satisfaction and improved performance. For instance, my organization has implemented strategies like study breaks and flexible work arrangements, which have proven effective in motivating employees and creating a sense of belonging However, a potential drawback of these practices is the potential limitation they may pose on managers' ability to develop close relationships with their employees.
