What are the researchers independent and dependent variables?

Independent= whether the child has divorced parents or not

Dependent= resistance score

What are the null and alternative hypotheses (use the appropriate symbols not words)?

What is the appropriate test for the researcher to use? A two-sample t test for means.

Why is that statistic appropriate? There are two groups that we are comparing the mean resistance score between (children of divorced parents and children of non-divorced parents).

If applicable to the specific test:

What are the tests assumptions? The populations are normally distributed, variance is equal, two groups are independent.

What are the tests df? df= N₁+N₂-2 = 150-2= 148

What is the appropriate critical value? -1.96 and 1.96

If the research obtains a test statistic of 6.67, would the researcher retain or reject H₀? We would reject the hypothesis since the is larger than critical value.

Should the researcher do any follow up tests or make any graphs/charts? Possibly a confidence interval to see the difference in the means.
