You use several reagents three proteases and cyanogen bromide to generate new peptides from helicase that had been treated with performic acid. Each of these is purified and subjected to Edman sequencing. (The peptides are named in order of increasing size.) However, in most cases you can get only 10-20 residues of sequence by this method. ("" indicates when the Edman degradation sequencing becomes unreadable before the end of the peptide.) The results are summarized in the table below.
